Community & Technical College

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College offers a wide range of academic, technical, and cultural programs to meet any student’s needs. Our academic transfer programs offer Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degrees that transfer very easily to four-year institutions. We offer specialized curriculum for your business and industry needs. We also offer a wide range of cultural opportunities for experiential engagement, such as community art and theater productions, while learning more about the history, culture, and traditions of southeast Kentucky and Appalachia.

There is a county school district and an independent school district in the city of Harlan, both of which are recognized by the state as home of Proficient and Distinguished schools. There are also collegiate opportunities available at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC), part of Kentucky’s network of Community and Technical Colleges.

Harlan Independent Schools are ranked as one of the top 10 school districts in the State of Kentucky. Harlan Independent Schools offer a rigorous and intimate setting for education in the City of Harlan. With a wide array of extracurricular activities, there is something for each student to be part of through the Harlan Independent School District. More than 85% of students are involved in some type of club, activity, or organization.

Harlan County Public Schools accepts the responsibility of providing a quality education to ensure that each student, regardless of gender, ethnicity, orientation, socioeconomic or physically challenged status, has the opportunity to develop their abilities to the highest level. Harlan County Public Schools also offers Advanced Placement courses in many subject areas, including Literature, Calculus, Chemistry, Statistics, Biology, and History.
